Christchurch teen among three jailed for robbery in which victim was stabbed in the leg
A CHRISTCHURCH teenager was one of three robbers jailed for a “frightening” attack in which a man was stabbed in the leg in the centre of Bournemouth.
Scott Knight (19), of Portfield Road, was sentenced at the town’s crown court last Friday, along with two other 19-year-olds; Tyler O’Callaghan, of no fixed abode; and Kariem Adbel-Halin, of Bingham Road, Verwood.
The trio targeted the local victim, who is in his 20s, as he walked along Glen Fern Road carrying a rucksack around 9pm on Thursday 12th November last year.
They approached him from a nearby car park before one tried to grab his bag and punched him in the face. His rucksack containing a Sony speaker and a set of keys was stolen.
O’Callaghan lunged at the victim and stabbed him with a large knife and, as the offenders ran away, he realised he was bleeding from a leg wound.
He was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment, later undergoing intensive physiotherapy which is set to continue for several more months.
The men had fled the area in a Citroen car.
Crime scene investigators found items including a silver-coloured section of a Citroen badge.
At around 11.15pm on Saturday 14th November officers in Drummond Road stopped a Citroen matching the description of that used in the robbery.
Rear-seat passenger O’Callaghan was arrested in connection with the offence, and was also found in possession of a quantity of drugs.
The vehicle was seized and police recovered a Sony speaker and set of keys matching the descriptions of the stolen items.
Knight and Adbel-Halin were arrested the following day, and searches of their addresses uncovered clothing matching descriptions of that belonging to the attackers.
Having previously admitted robbery, Knight was sent down for four years and two months.
O’Callaghan had previously admitted robbery, possessing a blade and two counts of possessing a class A controlled drug with intent to supply. He was put behind bars for four-and-a-half years.
Adbel-Halin had previously admitted robbery and possessing a blade, and was jailed for four years and four months.
DC Ian Caddy, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was a very frightening incident that has had a significant long-lasting impact on the victim, both mentally and physically.
“I would like to praise the victim for the courage he has shown while supporting our enquiries.
“I am pleased that through our investigation we were able to identify the culprits and bring them before the court to face justice for their actions.”
