Christchurch man Thomas Gunner handed rehab order for police assault, thefts and fraud in New Milton
“THIS type of behaviour will not be tolerated,” police said after a Christchurch man was convicted for attacking an officer, a string of thefts and fraud.
Thomas Gunner (31), of Dudmoor Farm Road, committed all of the offences in New Milton in January and April.
Southampton Magistrates’ Court heard he assaulted a policeman on 24th January.
He pleaded guilty to stealing tobacco valued at £31 from Tesco Express on the same day, and taking £93 of alcohol and tobacco from Morrisons Daily on Beechwood Avenue on 16th January.
The court convicted him of committing fraud after he unsuccessfully tried using stolen bank card to buy tobacco products at Morrisons Daily on Avenue Road on 17th January.
Gunner also admitted stealing a man’s £550 bicycle on 12th April, and he pleaded guilty to failing to attend a drug assessment.
The district judge handed him a 12-month community order, requiring he undergo rehabilitation activity.
Gunner was told to pay £100 compensation for assaulting Sgt Wood, but none was ordered for the bike theft as there was no loss or damage.
He was also told to pay £149 court charges.
Speaking after the sentencing, PC Chris Evans, of New Milton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I’m pleased that Gunner has been held accountable for his crimes.
“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in our town and we will always work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts.
“If you are thinking of committing similar offences in our town, please know that we will do everything we can to make sure you face the consequences for your actions.”
