A CHRISTCHURCH teenager with cerebral palsy died following complications from a feeding tube replacement, an inquest heard.

Miss Jibson had been waiting for a gastro PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) replacement having had recurrent PEG stoma site infections.

The procedure was carried out on 14th December, but after that her condition deteriorated and she remained in the intensive care unit.

On 20th December, a gastric leak from the PEG site was discovered and this was causing Miss Jibson increasing respiratory distress.

Discussions with her family led to the decision to palliate her and she passed away the next day.

A post-mortem examination established the cause of death was bilateral confluent pneumonia, along with cerebral palsy and localised peritonitis around PEG site.

The inquest was adjourned, and a full hearing is due to take place on 22nd November.
