Burgate’s Poppy Cleall helped Saracens Women defeat Harlequins Ladies 33-17 in the Tyrells Premier final.

Former Ellingham & Ringwood RFC player Cleall scored two tries in the game and claimed player of the match as the Sarries retain their title with a dominating performance despite being without Poppy’s sister Bryony after she broke her leg several weeks ago.

The Red Roses number eight grabbed the game’s first try within three minutes and added another just before the half time break to seal an emphatic victory in the final.

Cleall praised her side after their clinical first half performance: “It’s crazy to think that in such a competitive league we’ve come out the other end winning a final, so it’s a great feeling.”

“We knew that we could play rugby like that, but I think that we shocked ourselves with the way that we came out and were so clinical. Normally you get ten chances, and you put away five, but at the start of that game we were putting away every chance that we got which just showed what sort of rugby we can play.”
