Motorists warned of road closure and traffic control for continued major roadworks on A326 near Holbury roundabout

THERE will be a temporary road closure and traffic controls on part of the A326 through the New Forest from tomorrow (Monday) amid continued major improvement works.

Hampshire County Council is urging motorists to allow extra time for their journeys as contractors focus on the area around the Holbury roundabout for approximately the next 12 weeks.

This is the latest stage in a project started earlier in the summer to improve seven junctions on the southern section of the A326 and help ease traffic congestion.

A temporary road closure of Long Copse from its junction with Holbury Roundabout to its junction with Wentworth Grove is among measures being taken to enable the works to be carried out safely. Access to properties will be maintained.

There will also be temporary traffic lights on the A326 Long Lane and B3053 Fawley Road arms of the roundabout.

Cllr Rob Humby, HCC deputy leader and executive lead member for economy, transport and environment, said: “I am pleased that these important improvements to the A326 are now being implemented.

“During the works we will be doing all we can to minimise the disruption to the travelling public, but some additional delays should be expected.

“This is why I would encourage people to plan their journeys in advance and to leave extra time.”

Stressing the work was crucial to create smoother traffic flow, Cllr Humber added it also included improvements to walking and cycling facilities.

Improvements to the northern section of the A326 are also an HCC priority, but he pointed out these major works would require significant government funding.
