Lymington and Pennington Town Council feels pinch after Scottish Power price hike

LYMINGTON and Pennington Town Council is feeling the financial pinch after seeing a hike in its electricity tariffs.

A council payments list covering January to March showed Scottish Power’s December bill for a depot, paid by the authority on 22nd January, was £911.

But the January charge, paid on 5th February, came to just over £1,272.

Sitting on the council’s policy and resources committee, Independent Pennington member Cllr Martina Humber asked why the difference in the monthly bills was so high.

An authority officer told her the increased charge was due to the power company making an “adjustment” to its charges.

Later in the meeting councillors discussed a budget control report and were told the authority had also gone “slightly” over its budget on Christmas lighting and bunting.

Committee members voted unanimously to accept the charges in the payments list and a budget control report.
