New Aldi to open 22nd September off Caird Avenue in New Milton
NEW Milton shoppers looking forward to Aldi's middle-aisle bargains have just two weeks to wait until the town's store opens.
As reported in the A&T, plans for the supermarket were given the green light by New Forest District Council in January last year – going against recommendations by planning officers.
Approval was given amid overwhelming public support and came after NFDC rejected a similar scheme in May 2020.
The site is off Caird Avenue, directly opposite the Tesco Superstore, on the new still-under-construction Starling Road. It will finally open its doors on Thursday 22nd September.
It will be run by manager Claudia Jardim alongside a team of 40 colleagues employed, Aldi said, from the local community. It is also looking for four more store assistants.
Ms Jardim will be joined at the opening by Totton's Paralympics gold medallist Aaron Phipps who will cut the ribbon and give away bags of fresh fruit and vegetables to the first 30 customers in the queue.
Ms Jardim said she can’t wait to open: "It’s set to be a special day and having Paralympic hero Aaron Phipps join us will make it a morning to remember.”
Wheelchair rugby star Mr Phipps added: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store. It will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of ParalympicsGB.”
One of the brand's most popular features, the Specialbuys middle aisle, will be filled every Thursday and Sunday with items ranging from electrical items to garden tools.
Local charities and food banks can register with Neighbourly to collect from the store surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week.
The new Aldi will be open 8am-10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm Sunday.
