Domino's to open New Milton branch on Station Road by end of March

A MAJOR international pizza chain is set to open the doors to its new branch in New Milton by the end of the month.

Domino’s has taken over the Station Road premises formerly occupied by Barclays bank, which shut down in July 2021.

Signs with the distinctive logo have gone up, heralding the imminent opening at the takeaway.

A spokesperson for Domino’s said: “We’re delighted to be opening a new store in New Milton later this month, bringing our fresh, piping hot pizzas to even more loyal customers across south-west Hampshire.”

As reported in the A&T, New Forest District Council granted permission in December for DPSK Limited to serve hot food from number 30-32.

Domino’s is New Milton’s third major takeaway chain in recent years, joining KFC and Papa John’s.

It is set to be open 11am-11pm every day, producing an average 100 meals per day.

The application document had said: “The proposed development will allow for the continued use of a commercial unit and will support the vitality and viability of the town by reinstating an active frontage, increasing footfall and providing job opportunities for the local residents.”

NFDC received one public objection to the proposal and no comments in favour.

Concerns included the fast-food outlet increasing disturbance, with more litter and people congregating.

A council planning report concluded: “The proposal would make good use of an otherwise empty building without giving rise to harmful impacts on the character of the area.”

Comments on social media raised concerns about a lack of choice on the high street.

But one post said: “The bigger chains are the only ones that can afford the rates. Any shop is better than an empty one if it creates jobs locally.”

Domino’s did not reveal how many jobs it was bringing to New Milton when asked by the A&T, but applicants are still being sought.
