Covid cases rise in the New Forest with one new death reported
THE weekly number of new Covid cases rose by nearly 400 in the New Forest this week, with one new death reported in the latest update.
There were 1,716 weekly cases yesterday (Tuesday), an increase from 1,336 the week before, according to government figures.
That equates to a rate per 100,000 people of 955.2 – below the UK average of 1,033.2.
There was one new Covid death in the district reported in the latest update by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which happened in hospital.
In the BCP Council area, which includes Christchurch, there were four deaths, of which three were in hospital and one in a care home.
The number of cases rose by more than 1,000 in the conurbation, from 3,370 last Tuesday to 4,464 yesterday. The rate per 100,000 people was 1,124.5 – above the national average.
The provisional ONS fatality figures related to Covid-19 mentioned on the death certificate up to 21st January but registered up to 29th January.
They do not include local residents who may have died outside the area.
