Bid to demolish home and build two in its place on Avenue Road in New Milton strongly opposed by town council planning committee

A BID to demolish a New Milton house for two new homes was strongly opposed by the town council as “cramped and contrived”.

An application to New Forest District Council sought permission to bulldoze the present home and annex at Stretton, 26 Avenue Road, and build two detached houses.

Reviewing the application, the council’s planning committee registered a strong objection to the development, which includes parking and cycle storage, and a new dropped curb.

The impact on neighbouring number 24a was highlighted in a letter to NFDC from its occupants.

This said there would end up being four houses, including number 28, with little space between them, contrary to the street’s distinctive feature of wide frontages and spaces between buildings.

The pair said their lounge and back garden would suffer overlooking and loss of light from the new development.

The planning committee also felt it was an overdevelopment, cramped and contrived, and said a lack of onsite parking went against policy.

Following the end of public consultation on Friday 11th April, NFDC is set to make a decision by 8th May.
