Barton's Byron Road Christmas lights return for 2022

FAMILIES and neighbours from what has been hailed as Britain’s most festive street will come together in Barton later this month to officially switch on over 80,000 Christmas lights.

For the last two decades Ged Hollyoake and his Byron Road neighbours have been decorating their homes with a dazzling display of twinkling LED lights, nativity scenes and life-size festive creatures to raise over £80,000 for local charities.

Despite rising energy costs, Ged has pledged to continue the popular festive fixture this year with the addition of a new collection of woodland creatures.

The display, which spans a terrace of around seven homes, is a labour of love for Ged, who begins construction in September.

As well as becoming a firm favourite in the New Milton Christmas calendar, Ged’s incredible festive displays have seen him featured on Good Morning Britain, ITV News and as the backdrop for a Cadbury’s TV advert.

In 2017, the display was judged to be the best in Britain in a contest in the Daily Mail, judged by Christopher Biggins, which won Ged an extra £10,000 for his chosen charity.

Over the years the lights have helped raise over £83,000 for various charities and featured on television stations in Australia, USA, Russia and Spain

A small switch-on event and disco will begin at 4pm on Sunday 27th November.

The lights will be illuminated every evening from 4.30pm-8.30pm. Money raised from this year will benefit the NHS.
