BCP Council reminds those wanting to hold street parties for the King's coronation to apply by 24th March
RESIDENTS wanting to hold a street party to mark the coronation of King Charles III have just over one week left to submit road closure applications, says BCP Council.
While the applications are free, residents must get permission for street parties as road closures may be necessary.
Applications must be submitted online by 24th March.
BCP Council's cabinet member for tourism, culture and vibrant places, Cllr Beverley Dunlop, said: "Following on from the Queen’s jubilee last year we’ve waived the fees for road closures across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole once again and want to encourage everyone to get together with their neighbours for some fun and friendship.
"Street parties are a great way to mark this momentous occasion and bring communities together – and it’s really easy to apply for a street party, so don’t delay, plan your street party today."
As reported in the A&T, the coronation will be officially marked on 6th May with a service at Westminster Abbey, attended by members of the royal family, world leaders and royalty from around the world alongside friends of King Charles and those connected to the organisations and charities he supports.
While Charles was automatically appointed King when his mother died, his coronation cements his position as head of the Church of England and marks the transfer of titles and powers to the new monarch.
The celebrations will continue on 7th May with a concert in the grounds of Windsor Castle, staged and broadcast live by the BBC.
It will include an exclusive performance by the Coronation Choir – a group created from community groups and amateur singers from across the United Kingdom, such as refugee choirs, NHS choirs, LGBTQ+ singing groups and deaf signing choirs.
