Boldre Parish Council urges delay on plans for former Pilley shop

PLANS to convert Pilley’s former post office into a home should be delayed while the new community shop finds its feet, Boldre Parish Council has urged.

The scheme is due to be decided by the national park authority’s planning committee next week and is recommended for approval.

The shop in Pilley Street shut earlier this year with the operation moving to an extension at Boldre War Memorial hall, as reported in the A&T.

The application is to change the old premises to residential accommodation, with the partial removal of the front of the building and alterations to the doors and windows.

Internal alterations, including a new staircase, are also proposed, although these do not require planning permission.

However, Boldre Parish Council has described the application as “premature” arguing that the viability of a new community shop has not been established.

Members also raised concerns the proposal could see the property subdivided into two dwellings.

Six neighbours have also objected, claiming proposed new windows would lead to a loss of privacy for 1 Pilley Green, and a door would open directly onto the Forest.

A report to the NPA planning committee recommended permission should be granted as the former shop has now been relocated It also concluded the scheme will not adversely impact neighbours.

It said the use of obscure glazing and planning conditions will overcome any issues with loss of privacy.

The application is set to be decided by the NPA’s planning committee at its meeting on Tuesday 20th September.
