Domino's grabs pizza-the-action as new high street branch opens in New Milton

A MAJOR international pizza chain grabbed a slice of New Milton when it launched its new high street branch at the weekend.

Domino’s said it had brought 25 jobs to the area after opening its doors at the Station Road premises formerly occupied by Barclays bank, which shut down in 2021.

Having taken on pizza chefs and delivery drivers, it is still looking to bolster its roster of in-store workers.

SK Group operations director Ricky Kandola said: “We’re excited to have opened a new store in New Milton, allowing us to deliver our delicious menu of Domino’s classics to even more pizza lovers across the country.

“We’re still on the lookout for exceptional people to be part of our in-store team.

“With more than four in five of our store managers starting their own career as a team member, these roles offer a great opportunity for ambitious people looking to grow and build a career with the nation’s best-loved pizza company.”

As reported in the A&T, New Forest District Council granted permission in December for DPSK Ltd to serve hot food from numbers 30-32.

Domino’s is New Milton’s third major takeaway chain in recent years, joining KFC and Papa John’s in the high street.

It will be open 11am-11pm every day, producing an average 100 meals per day.

NFDC received one public objection to the proposal and no comments in favour.

Concerns included the fast-food outlet increasing disturbance, with more litter and people congregating.

But a council planning report concluded: “The proposal would make good use of an otherwise empty building without giving rise to harmful impacts on the character of the area.”

Comments on social media raised concerns about a lack of choice on the high street.

But one post said: “The bigger chains are the only ones that can afford the rates. Any shop is better than an empty one if it creates jobs locally.”
