Domino's pizza takeaway set to open at former Barclays bank in New Milton

A MAJOR international pizza chain is set to come to New Milton after a takeaway bid for a former high street bank was approved.

New Forest District Council granted planning permission for DPSK Limited (Domino’s) to change the use of the premises at 30-32 Station Road, previously occupied by Barclays, to hot food.

The serving of “pizzas and associated side orders” was mentioned in the application, but the company has once again declined to comment to the A&T.

Domino’s will be New Milton’s third major takeaway chain in recent years, joining KFC and Papa John’s.

The application said the takeaway would be open 11am-11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am-midnight Friday and Saturday, and an average of 100 meals per day would be produced.

NFDC received one public objection to the proposal and no comments in favour.

The objector’s concerns included the fast food outlet increasing disturbance, with more litter and people congregating.

But a planning officer stated Environmental Health had made recommendations to minimise impact on nearby residential amenities.

These include submitting a noise report before the outlet opens and restricting both delivery and construction hours.

Changing the first floor’s use from office to three flats was no longer included in the bid.

However, the officer said conditions were imposed to limit equipment noise levels and enclose the plant at the back of the site in view of existing homes.

The report concluded: “The proposal would make good use of an otherwise empty building without giving rise to harmful impacts on the character of the area.”

The two-storey detached unit has been vacant since Barclays shut in July 2021.

As reported in the A&T, it has recently been targeted by vandals ripping tiles from the roof and throwing them onto the street below.
