Car crash that demolished wall on Ashley Road, New Milton, sees drink-driver Albert Dyba from Chesterfield banned from roads for 17 months

PLOUGHING his car into a wall in New Milton while twice the alcohol limit saw a Derbyshire motorist banned from the roads for 17 months.

The wall was demolished when Albert Dyba (33), of Dovetail Court, Chesterfield, swerved and crashed into it while travelling along Ashley Road shortly after 10pm on Saturday 19th October 2024.

Dyba pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving when he appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court.

As well as the disqualification, the Bench fined him £120 and ordered he pay £170 court charges.

New Milton Neighbourhood Policing Team’s PC Tom Jelly, who investigated the incident, welcomed the outcome.

“Dyba clearly felt he could drink alcohol, drive his vehicle and not face any consequences for those actions,” he said.

“This prosecution and sentencing has proven that he was wrong. The ban he has received will now give him time to consider his actions and hopefully learn from this experience, safe in the knowledge that we will bring him before the courts again if he does similar in the future.

“Drink-driving is extremely dangerous and can have devastating consequences for both the offending driver and other innocent people using our roads.

“This case should serve as a stark warning and reminder to all who drink alcohol and then choose to drive.”

Drivers are reminded that alcohol can take a considerable amount of time to leave their system. They should only get behind the wheel when absolutely certain they are fit to do so.

Local officers posted a picture of the collision’s aftermath online as a warning to those who might consider driving while under the influence.

“This is what can happen when someone drink-drives,” they wrote.

“Thankfully, on this occasion, nobody was hurt during the incident.”
