POLICE have slammed a “selfish” drink-driver who crashed outside a Dibden home on Easter Sunday while displaying coronavirus symptoms.

Shortly after 9.30pm a Ford KA careered off Main Road and ploughed into a van parked on a driveway.

Officers responded along with paramedics, and the car’s driver, a 20-year-old woman from Marchwood, provided a positive breath test before being taken to hospital.

Her front-seat passenger, a 21-year-old-woman, suffered minor injuries, according to a Hampshire police spokesperson.

A sarcastic post afterwards on the Hampshire Roads Policing Twitter account said: “Thank you to the drink-driver who crashed their car into a front garden in Dibden Hythe while displaying Covid-19 symptoms!

“In turn this exposed two RPU [roads policing unit] officers to red zone wards at hospital and caused additional work for NHS staff caring for her.”

A force spokesperson said no arrests had been made.

Commenting on Twitter in response to the incident, Waterside Police urged people to “rat on a rat” by calling officers on 101 if they know of someone who is drink-driving.

“Sadly there's a hardcore minority who will always act selfishly and endanger others,” the tweet said.
