POLICE arrested a Totton driver after his passenger was killed in a car crash in Southampton at the weekend.

The victim, a 51-year-old woman also from Totton, died at the scene of the incident which happened at 11pm on Sunday in Mountbatten Way and involved a BMW 3 Series.

The driver (32) was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

The road was shut for investigations and reopened yesterday (Monday) morning.

Officers now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: “The female passenger, a 51-year-old from Totton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

“The driver, a 32-year-old man, from Totton, has been arrested.

“Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the silver BMW in the area prior to the incident.”
