Elderly driver trapped after car strikes garden fence and storage container on Hampton Lane in Blackfield




FIREFIGHTERS freed a badly hurt motorist after a car ploughed into a garden fence and a storage container in Blackfield.

The incident involving a Kia Picanto took place on Hampton Lane shortly after midday today (Wednesday), leaving the driver, a local woman in her 90s, trapped inside.

Crews from Beaulieu and Hardley provided medical assistance before releasing her in an operation which took about an hour.

She was then handed over to paramedics as the Hampshire & Isle of Wight fire and Rescue personnel left the scene with police.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire force said the casualty had suffered serious injuries.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks engineers were also called out to inspect a nearby pole which may have been struck in the crash.
