Fundraiser after elderly mother’s broken down mobility scooter stolen in Burton

A FUNDRAISING page has been launched for an elderly woman whose mobility scooter was stolen after breaking down in Burton.

The victim had been forced to walk home for help when the scooter stopped working on Stony Lane nearby last Wednesday afternoon, but it had been taken by the time a neighbour arrived to retrieve it.

Police are investigating the theft, which took place between 4pm and 5pm, but a Dorset force spokesperson said a week later no arrests had been made.

The victim’s daughter, Suzanna Groves, has set up an online gofundme page in a bid to raise £1,800 to replace the scooter.

“My mum is absolutely heartbroken. These mobility scooters are our life lines,” she wrote on the page.

“They help us pick the kids up from school, pop to the shop to get some milk, and also help to get us out and not be so isolated.

“The scooters are not cheap to buy. The one that was stolen cost my mum a lot of money, and sadly we just don’t have the money to replace it.”

By Wednesday afternoon the page at tinyurl.com/yc4r76h3 had collected just over £100 in donations towards the target.

Anyone with information about the theft should contact officers online via dorset.police.uk or call 101, quoting reference 55250017996.

Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously via crimestoppers-uk.org or on 0800 555 111.
