Environment Agency issues flood alert for Christchurch Harbour and tidal stretches along Lower Stour and Avon rivers today (Thursday)
A FLOOD alert has been issued for areas of Christchurch this morning (Thursday).
The Environment Agency is warning areas most at risk are Christchurch Harbour and tidal stretches along Lower Stour and Avon rivers.
This is due to a high tide forecast at 7am and further heavy rainfall forecast this afternoon.
The agency said it would continue to monitor levels closely throughout the day.
It advises residents and businesses to be ready to act, with a recommendation that cars and other vehicles are moved to higher ground if it is safe to do so.
Gas, electricity and water supplies should be turned off prior to flooding and in rural locations farmers should consider moving livestock and equipment away from areas likely to flood.
