Family pays tribute to 'most wonderful' Max Thurnell-Read

THE family of a 15-year-old New Milton student who died suddenly last week have paid tribute to him as a talented teenager who "lived life to the full".

As reported in the A&T, Max Thurnell-Read, who attended the Arnewood School in the town, died last Tuesday at his home in Earlswod Park.

In a statement, the family said: "Max was the most wonderful son, brother, grandson and nephew to us. He was a caring friend to many and an enthusiastic part of the community throughout his school life.

"He lived life to the full and we will treasure fondly memories of amazing travels including to Galapagos and Botswana, day trips, camping holidays, performances and day-to-day life which was always full of laughter and fun.

"Max always achieved well at school academically, as well as being a dedicated and talented guitarist and keen performer."

They added: "We're like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who has taken the time to send their condolences, support the family at this time and most importantly share with us what Max meant to them.

"The family would also like any of Max's friends and peers to seek the help and support they need and thank them for being part of Max's life."

A fundraising webpage has since been launched in Max's memory by Danni Browning, with donations going to Young Minds, a charity that supports young people with their mental health.

The goal of £250 has already been smashed by contributions and on Wednesday stood at nearly £2,250.

The webpage said: "Max was such a great and talented boy, he was loved and treasured by so many people. For those of you who didn’t know Max, he was a 15-year-old musician who could easily put a smile on anyone’s face.

"He was so passionate about music and even had his own band with his friends."

Max, who was in Year 10, also excelled in drama, playing the leading role of Curtis in the Arnewood School sell-out production of Sister Act.

Last week police said Max's death was not being treated as suspicious. Staff and students at Arnewood were offered counselling.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police last week confirmed that officers had been called to report of "concern for welfare". Max was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died. A file is being prepared for the coroner.
