Lynwood Farm on Rollestone Road, Holbury, formerly owned by John and Harry Orman, subject of NFDC enquiry by Wates Developments for 200 new homes

UP to 200 new homes could be built on farmland between Blackfield and Holbury, under an enquiry received by New Forest District Council.

Details of the scheme are limited, however, NFDC is looking into a proposal from Surrey-based Wates Developments for Lynwood Farm on Rollestone Road, Holbury.

The farm, which was run by brothers John and George Orman, once boasted a large collection of vintage farm machinery including many tractors and engines. However, neither of the brothers married and, following their deaths, the huge collection was auctioned by Thimbleby & Shorland in 2018.

The enquiry currently being considered by NFDC says the existing bungalow and farm buildings would be demolished to make way for up to 200 new dwellings, of which 70 would be affordable. The project would also involve new access roads and around 18.5 hectares of green open space to be used by residents and the wider community.

A spokesperson for NFDC said the pre-application enquiry “requests our opinion on a potential development” and such details would not be published.
