A BUNGALOW was destroyed after being engulfed by flames which spread to five nearby outbuildings at Fawley.

Multiple fire crews responded to the blaze which broke out at the property in Badminston Drove around 3.15pm on Tuesday.

The inferno had also started to consume the five structures, which were used to store vehicles.

It is understood that the remote location of the incident meant two Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service water carriers had to be dispatched from Christchurch and Poole stations. These joined firefighters from Hardley, Totton, Hightown and Romsey.

Equipped with breathing apparatus, the crews battled for over three hours to contain the emergency. By the time the flames had been extinguished, the property had been completely destroyed.

The outbuildings sustained severe damage, although a Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson did not have information as to whether they contained any vehicles at the time.

It was not known what had caused the blaze, but the spokesperson said the service’s own investigators were assessing the scene.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks engineers also attended the scene to isolate the address’ supply while the firefighters dealt with the emergency.
