New Forest District Council confirms fire in one of its refuse vehicles in Beaulieu but collections are continuing

Waste collections are continuing despite a fire this morning (Thursday) in an NFDC refuse lorry.

New Forest District Council has assured residents its usual rounds will not be affected after blaze, which happened in Beaulieu.

The fire was within the vehicle’s waste compartment rather than in the engine, the council confirmed.

In a post online, the council said: “One of our refuse trucks suffered a vehicle fire this morning in Beaulieu.

“All crew are safe and the fire has been extinguished.”

It added: “The fire service instructed that the waste be tipped onto Beaulieu High Street so they could deal with it.

“This is being cleared a soon as possible [and] waste collections in the area will still take place today as planned.”
