Marchwood barn destroyed in blaze battled by fire crews from across the New Forest
FIREFIGHTERS from across the New Forest battled through the night to contain a blaze which destroyed a Marchwood barn.
The alarm was raised around 12.15am today (Thursday) as flames engulfed the outbuilding containing hay bales and an agricultural vehicle in Beaulieu Road.
Armed with hose jets, crews from Hardley, Hythe, Beaulieu, Redbridge and St Mary’s also used ventilation fans to control the fire.
They also worked to stop it spreading to adjacent barns.
Relief crews attended later in the morning to take over from personnel who were first on the scene.
By the time the emergency had been contained, the barn was destroyed and the bales and pick-up truck were damaged.
Most crews left at 8.45am, with one remaining at the scene to dampen down, with a re-inspection due to take place later today.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire investigation officers are on the scene to ascertain the cause of the blaze.”
