Fish at a premium for Lymington and District Sea Fishing Club's Cod Open

LAST month Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held its annual Cod Open competition, sponsored by Loni’s Angling of New Milton.
Sadly, due to the anticipated wind the match was fished in a restricted area of the Solent. After a very wet start for the 56 anglers, the winds dropped and the rain stopped but unfortunately the fish never appeared. Only three codling were weighed in and a couple of thornback rays.
Results: 1, Steve Barnes, codling, 5lb 1.4oz; 2, John Baggs, codling 2lb 9.4oz; 3, Richard Rickman, codling 2lb 5.6oz.
The heaviest other prize went to Bill Devine with a thornback ray of 6lb 5oz with John Sloper second also with a thornback ray weighing 6lb 4oz.
