Mudeford RNLI praises fishing boat’s crew for helping rescue two distressed jet skiers off Hengistbury Head
The crew of a fishing boat have been praised for rescuing two jet skiers in distress off Hengistbury Head.
Mudeford RNLI responded to a call-out at 5.20pm on Saturday from the commercial boat’s crew who were concerned about the casualties’ welfare after recovering them from the water.
One of the pair had been in the water for about half an hour and was showing signs of hypothermia.
The other managed to remain on board the jet ski but was cold and shaken.
The fishing crew had towed the jet ski and were providing initial care to the casualties.
Atlantic 85 lifeboat Henrietta H launched just before 5.30pm, arriving on scene in five minutes, and two crew members boarded the fishing vessel.
Both casualties were taken on board the lifeboat and taken to Mudeford lifeboat station while awaiting an ambulance.
The lifeboat then relaunched with a fresh crew, and took over towing the jet ski. It was taken to Mudeford Quay and secured for its owners to collect later.
A Southbourne Coastguard rescue team supported the operation alongside an RNLI shore crew.
Mudeford RNLI volunteer helm Andy Read said afterwards: “This incident highlights the importance of quick-thinking teamwork and skilled casualty care.
“Thanks to everyone’s actions, the casualties received the help they needed promptly, and the situation was resolved safely.
“Mudeford RNLI would like to thank the crew of the fishing vessel for their swift action in recovering the jet skiers and providing initial assistance.”
