FLOOD alerts have been issued for local coastal areas this afternoon (Friday).

The Environment Agency (EA) has put warnings in place for Christchurch Harbour, the lower Avon and Stour, the Calshot and Lepe area, and Beaulieu estuary.

Flood gates have been closed at Christchurch, and sea spray overtopping is predicted as a result of high tides and strong winds of Force 7-8.

There is no risk to properties in the area, but the EA is urging care along beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths and roads.

At Calshot and Lepe, a high afternoon tide may cause minor flooding at Eling Tide Mill.

Car park and road flooding is warned at Magazine Lane in Marchwood, and Hythe’s Shore Road and promenade.

For Beaulieu, flooding is warned at the Mill House garden at Mill Pond, as well as Palace and Hatchet lanes.

The warnings are in place for between 1pm and 3.30pm.
