Environment Agency issues flood warning for Middle Hampshire Avon around Ringwood and Fordingbridge and flood alert for tributaries
RISING river levels may see flooding in the Ringwood and Fordingbridge areas this morning (Tuesday).
The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for the Middle Hampshire Avon, south of the A36 at Salisbury to Blashford in Ringwood.
The warning covers Charlton All Saints, Breamore, Fordingbridge and Bickton.
The agency has also issued a less serious flood alert for the Middle Hampshire Avon and its tributaries between Salisbury and Ringwood.
The agency said river levels are “rising steadily due to recent rainfall” in the area south of the A36 covered by the flood warning.
Residents are advised to activate any flood protection they have and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
For the area covered by a flood alert, an agency spokesperson said: “Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Middle Hampshire Avon, with low-lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around tributaries between Salisbury and Ringwood.
“Further flooding is possible this morning as river levels are forecast to rise due to recent rainfall. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels… local water levels and weather conditions.”
Residents are also advised to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.
