The Environment Agency is warning of flooding to properties in Barrack Road and Willow Way in Christchurch today (Tuesday)
PROPERTIES are at risk of flooding in Christchurch today (Tuesday), the Environment Agency has warned, as it urges residents to take action.
The organisation issued a flood alert this morning before upgrading it shortly after to a warning, which means immediate action is required.
The alert covers the Lower Stour from Sturminster Marshall to Christchurch, where flooding is expected for Barrack Road and Willow Way.
The EA said: “Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions.
“Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water [and] consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.”
It advises moving family and pets to a safe place, and cars or other vehicles to higher ground, if it is safe to do so.
Businesses should ensure staff and customers can get to safety and are advised to move stock to a safe place.
Flood protection equipment, such as barriers, air brick covers and pumps should be used to protect property.
Other advice includes moving important items upstairs or to a safe place and packing a bag with enough items for a few nights away, in case of evacuation.
This should include essential items including a torch with spare batteries, mobile phone and charger, warm clothes, home insurance information, water, food, first aid kit and any prescription medicines or baby care items.
Residents should turn off their gas, electricity and water mains ahead of flooding.
