Flooding and potholes close part of busy B3055 Bashley Cross Road at Beckley, near Sammy Miller Museum, to A35
ANOTHER route into New Milton has been closed as flooding and potholes have seen Bashley Cross Road shut.
Hampshire County Council put an emergency closure in place on the B3055 – at the junction of Stem Lane to the A35 – on Monday afternoon. It is set to remain in place until at least the end of Friday.
Severe flooding from recent torrential rainfall was said by the authority to have “accelerated deterioration of the road surface”.
The closure includes cones and barriers in place for 200 metres, with access only for farmers and residents, although many drivers are still using the route.
There is a signed diversion for traffic via Bashley Common Road.
An HCC spokesperson said: “Beckley Road, between Beckley and the A35 Hinton, has been closed due to severe flooding caused by recent heavy rainfall.
“This flooding, along with high groundwater levels, has led to the accelerated deterioration of the road surface.
“When the water level drops, our highways team can fully assess the condition of the road and arrange for any potholes to be repaired.”
The spokesperson added: “We appreciate this is causing disruption to local road users and would advise people to allow more time for their journeys.”
As reported in the A&T, Walkford Road remains closed for gasworks until at least 22nd December. The two closures have seen increased congestion along the A337 Christchurch Road this week.
