Flytipping spike prompts high-visibility police patrols across New Forest together with NFDC and Forestry England

POLICE are probing a recent surge in flytipping across the New Forest.

Two large dumps of rubbish within a week at Matley Wood Car Park, just outside Lyndhurst, were among recent incidents reported by Forestry England and New Forest District Council.

Officers have been carrying out high-visibility patrols around the district together with representatives from FE and NFDC.

Other sites frequently targeted by flytippers include Bolton’s Bench cemetery car park in Lyndhurst and Staplewood Lane, off the A326 at Marchwood.

A Hampshire police spokesperson said: “We continue to carry out enquiries to identify those who may have been responsible for these flytipping incidents and are working closely with partners in carrying out high-visibility patrols in the late evenings with Forestry England to act as a deterrent.”

Images of recent flytips were shared by local police, with those who recognise any of the waste shown asked to email richard.williams@hampshire.police.uk

People are also urged to contact officers on 101 if they see anyone dumping rubbish anywhere in the Forest.
