Football round-up: new Wessex League season kicks off with a bang

THE Wessex League kicked off the new season over the weekend with teams from the Premier Division and Division One in action.

Premier Division

Brockenhurst smashed Tadley Calleva 4-0 at home. Matt Casey, Freddie Bullard, Tom Hill and Dylan Manufor all got on the score sheet in their impressive start to the new campaign.

Christchurch snatched a point in the first game of the new season with a late Max Willcock goal against Hamble Club.

Bashley rued their missed chances after they had to settle for a 0-0 home draw against Fleet Town.

A Micky Finch brace secured a narrow 2-1 victory for Lymington over Horndean. Finch’s curling free kick sealed the win in the second half.

Division One

New Milton Town were embarrassed in front of a crowd of over 700 people after they slumped to an 8-1 defeat to Bemerton Heath Harlequins. Eamonn Duffy provided the Linnets goal with a stunning long-range strike.

Totton & Eling suffered an opening day defeat at Andover Town. Goals from Josh Bertie and Aidan O’Kelly secured victory for Andover.

Cain Prentice scored twice to gift Hythe & Dibden a 3-2 victory over Whitchurch United. Filippos Terzidis also got on the scoresheet as Hythe claimed their first points of the season.

Ringwood Town strolled to a comfortable victory over East Cowes Victoria. Goals from Tom Hughes, Jack Barton and a brace from Ryan Hamm was enough to ensure a 4-1 win.
