Forestry England shuts Horseshoe Bottom car park, off Wilverley Road in Brockenhurst, for two days of ‘essential resurfacing repairs’

A NEW Forest car park is closed for two days of “essential resurfacing”.

Forestry England announced this morning (Tuesday) that Horseshoe Bottom car park, off Wilverley Road in Brockenhurst, would be out of use today and tomorrow (Wednesday).

Motorists are instead asked to use the nearby Longslade Bottom or Longslade Heath car parks.

An online post said: “We are closing Horseshoe Bottom car park on 22nd and 23rd April while we carry out essential resurfacing repairs.

“Looking after 130 car parks in the New Forest is a big job. We have made repairs and improvements at around 40 of these so far this year.

“The New Forest is a highly protected area for conservation and that includes our car parks.”

With the protection prohibiting industrial materials such as asphalt or concrete, FE can only use naturally sourced hoggin gravel. But its costs have increased by 50% in the past three years.

The post explained: “With our limited funding this means we are having to carefully prioritise where we make repairs and some car parks may be closed for longer periods while they await maintenance.”
