FORMER Highcliffe student and ex-Bashley manager Tom Prodomo has joined League Two side Southend United as assistant manager.

Tom arrives with new manager and former AFC Bournemouth player Mark Molesley after the pair worked together during Weymouth Football Club’s recent back-to-back promotions.

Last season, Southend were relegated from League One after a dismal four wins from 35 matches before manager Sol Campbell left by mutual consent.

Before his time at Weymouth, Tom was in charge of the Brockenhurst College Football Academy. Under his tenure, they won the English College Football Association National Knockout competition.

Between 2015 and 2018, Tom also held the England College Football Association assistant manager position.

His first spell as Bashley manager came in 2014 after two quick-fire departures left the hot seat vacant until Steve Riley was re-appointed. When Riley resigned in November 2015 due to the club’s poor form, Tom was the obvious choice, and nobody at the club was surprised when Weymouth came knocking two seasons later.

Tom told the A&T: “My time at Brockenhurst College teaching young adults helped me to develop as a coach. Particularly my communication skills as well as learning different approaches to coaching in the classroom and the training ground.

“At Bashley, I had the chance to develop my skills at creating a culture and professionalising how a club operates.

“Next year will be about setting the right culture. I feel privileged to be here, but the ultimate goal is to be successful as a club.”

Tom’s twin brother Joe, who played in goal for Bashley FC before taking up a coaching role, departed with his brother to Weymouth before moving onto AFC Bournemouth where he is still the goalkeeping coach.

Bashley FC president and football secretary, Mike Cranidge, Tweeted: “Massive congratulations from all at the club to ex-Bashley legend Tom Prodomo. Following his success as Mark Molesley’s right-hand man at Weymouth, he has been appointed to continue that role at Southend United. Always a winner.”

Tom is also a former New Milton Eagles FC player.
