St Luke’s CE Primary School in Sway help grant former teacher Shirley Crampton’s wish of returning to the classroom

A FORMER teacher took a trip down memory lane after she was invited to visit a Sway school to read with pupils.

Shirley Crampton (91), of Sway Place care home in the village, said the time spent with youngsters from reception and year one at St Luke’s CofE Primary School brought back “fond memories”.

The trip was organised by staff at Sway Place after they learnt of Shirley’s wish to go back to the classroom.

She led a special reading session with pupils before sharing tales from her days as a teacher, which she began in London in 1958.

Shirley said: “The visit brought back so many fond memories of my days as a teacher. It felt like only yesterday and I was right back in the classroom again.”

General manager at Sway Place, Jane Baxter, added: “Shirley is always sharing stories from her days as a teacher, so it was wonderful to be able to help her relive those fond memories, while making some new friends.”
