A packed programme of events for this weekend’s Netley Marsh Steam & Craft Show
A POPULAR three-day steam show which raises money for local good causes returns to the New Forest this weekend.
The Netley Marsh Steam & Craft Show, which was first held in 1971, takes place at Meadowmead Farm from today (Friday) until Sunday.
Visitors can enjoy a packed programme of events including a new steam arena, displays of classic cars and motorcycles, heavy horse parades and live evening music.
A spokesperson said: “We are looking forward to welcoming over 50 steam engines to this year’s event, both in miniature and full-size form, including a bygone working steam area where you can see the engines being put to work cutting wood, threshing and even stone crushing.
“We have been listening to feedback received from visitors and exhibitors and we are pleased to announce that we will be having a specifically dedicated arena for the steam engines. This means that for the first time in many years, steam engines will be running all day.”
Other arena events include Jez Avery’s Stunt Show and Adam’s Axemen, as well as displays from South Wilts Falconry, where members of the public will have an opportunity to handle the birds.
Children’s entertainer Fiery Jack will be hosting workshops, and there will also be ferret racing, a dog show and mower racing.
The event, organised by volunteers, was originally a one-day affair which raised money for repairs to the nearby St Matthew’s Church.
Since then it has raised thousands of pounds for local good causes, with more than £35,000 handed out in 2023 – the event’s highest amount yet.
Tickets cost £13 for adults £7 for children aged between six and 16. Free car parking is available and dogs on leads are welcome.
