Garage suffers extensive damage after garden bonfire spreads in Sway Road, Pennington




FIREFIGHTERS battled a Pennington garden bonfire that spread to a garage, causing extensive damage.

The alarm was raised around 1.20pm on Monday as flames engulfed the outbuilding’s roof in Sway Road.

Crews from Lymington, Beaulieu and St Mary’s teamed up with Dorset counterparts as they spent over 90 minutes containing the emergency.

As well as significant damage to its roof, the garage’s first floor sustained smoke and water damage.

A crew returned in the evening to check for hotspots with a thermal imaging camera.

Sharing news of the incident on Twitter, a Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "With the ground so dry and temperatures set to rise, here's another reminder of why we all need to be careful to prevent fires during this heatwave."
