St Luke's Primary School in Sway praised in latest 'outstanding' Ofsted
ST Luke’s Primary School in Sway is celebrating after being rated 'outstanding' in all categories by Ofsted inspectors.
The establishment in West Beams Road, which was last inspected in 2009, was praised for its high quality teaching across all ages, excellent leadership and welcoming ethos.
The two-day visit was undertaken on 24th and 25th January by inspectors Simon Woodbridge and Laura James, who said the school was at the heart of its community and prepared pupils well for 21st century life.
The report continued: “Pupils are clear that everyone is welcome at their school and that everyone is caring and supportive of each other, no matter their differences.
"Pupils learn about a wealth of global and local issues and have a strong understanding of fairness and injustice.”
Head teacher Rachel Goplen told the A&T the report recognised the quality of staff and hard work put in by all at St Luke’s.
She continued: “Time and time again, they go above and beyond the call of duty in order to create an environment where students want to do well and feel cared for.
"I am incredibly lucky to work with such a wonderful team of professionals.
“Our children really are fantastic and inspectors noted this when they visited.
"Throughout the report, praise is given to them, and quite rightly as they are the ones who make the school such a wonderful place to learn and work.”
Ofsted noted high expectations for pupil behaviour led to “impeccable standards”, with pupils fully engaging in lessons.
Deep subject knowledge and enthusiasm was demonstrated by youngsters, and strong relationships were formed between staff and pupils based on mutual respect.
The inspection found that pupils got off to an “incredible start”, and this continued into later years allowing children to develop high quality speaking and listening skills.
“Work is of a high quality in all subjects, and this is seen not just in books but also around the school, which is filled wall to wall with exceptional pieces of art and writing,” stated the report.
“Leaders ensure that staff have high levels of expertise in all areas of teaching. There is effective training and development available to enable all staff to teach consistent high-quality lessons.”
Ms Goplen and other senior leaders were praised for their ambitious approach to seeking the best outcomes for all pupils.
The report continued: “They have created a consistent teaching approach and broad curriculum which challenges and engages pupils, while at the same time develops character and ensures wellbeing.”
Staff were also found to be well supported and extra help was well delivered to pupils and their families where needed.
Inspectors noted: “Leaders ensure that effective policies and procedures are in place and are tenacious in their record-keeping.
"Staff receive regular training that allows them to be vigilant and have a well developed understanding of the risks facing pupils.”
Jenny Francis, St Luke’s chair of governors, said, “We would like to congratulate everyone at the school on this glowing report. The school’s mission statement is ‘Laying the foundations for life’.
“The report describes just that and is the result of talent, hard work and dedication on the part of staff and children every day.
"We know how hard everyone works, and how committed the staff are to providing the best education and school experience for every child at the school.”
