Goatesses surpass the Goats with top performance at rugby 7s tournament
THE New Milton-based Goatesses won their debut women's rugby sevens tournament at Yeovil 7s while the Lonely Goats finished as runners-up in their cup final.
The Goatesses produced a spectacular second-half performance in the final which included a last gasp try in the corner and an unlikely drop-goal conversion to complete the comeback and take home the trophy with a narrow 22-21 victory.
Meanwhile, the men produced three wins out of four in the group stage despite several critical injuries. They cruised through the semi-final with a 24-7 win but were unable to get over the line in the final as they slipped to a 17-10 defeat to Hurn Windsocks.
Yenei Tinley finished as top try-scorer and also claimed Players’ Player for his impressive performances. Joe Desmond was named Coach’s Player of the tournament.
Both results mean that the Goatesses and the Lonely Goats have booked a place in the London International 7s event which will be held Wasps Rugby Club this Saturday.
The Lonely Goats will enter the elite sevens tournament with a £300 prize pot for the winners while the Goatesses will participate in the social cup.
