A GRANDSON rescued his grandmother as flames tore through a home in Sway in the early hours.
The alarm was raised at 1am today (Wednesday) after an immersion heater caught alight in a first-floor bedroom at a property on Hyde Close.
Both occupants had got out by the time firefighters from Brockenhurst, Lymington and New Milton arrived at the scene.
One crew member told the A&T: “The grandson was able to get his grandmother out. Fair play to him, good effort.”
The crew battled intense heat to extinguish the blaze within two hours and prevent any spread to the roof.
As well as the first floor being completely destroyed by fire, the ground floor sustained water damage.
