Grange School pupils’ sea glass pendant is a winner in competition for young enterprisers

A pendant made from silver and sea glass helped pupils from the Grange School reach the regional finals of a national competition supporting young businesses.

The Christchurch students entered their jewellery into the ‘Planet Friendly Fashion’ category of the charity Young Enterprise’s competition.

It was produced by a company comprising pupils aged 14-15 called The Innovators, making goods which are locally sourced and sustainable. They were then sold at school events.

Young Enterprise is a charity which recognises that, apart from studying academic subjects, many pupils also benefit from learning the skills they will need in the workplace such as teamwork, communication and financial capability.

The programme, which Grange pupils attended after school, also teaches youngsters how to manage a business, the legal and financial aspects, health and safety, human resources and marketing.

Students also had to deliver a Dragons Den-style presentation about their company to a panel which awarded them a prize for innovation.
