NFDC gives Osman Homes permission to build nine homes on green land
PLANNING chiefs have given the go ahead for nine homes to be built on green belt in Calmore.
New Forest District Council granted permission for Osman Homes Ltd to build the dwellings on undeveloped land north of The Hollies in Hill Street, despite local objections.
Homeowners had written to the authority to express concerns over visual intrusion, vehicular access and traffic.
One objector said the new development, with the formation of new access that removes existing hedges, would have a “direct impact” on the rural character and appearance of the area.
A council officer’s report said the application site is “made up of fields” in the Netley Marsh area and represents a “very small” portion of the area’s strategic housing allocation.
“The area has a rural character owing to the dominance of agricultural uses, mature trees and very low density of the existing built form,” it stated. “However, the site falls within the defined built up area, as defined in the Local Plan which extended to accommodate the allocated strategic mixed-use site.”
The development will include two two-bed homes, three three-bed homes and four four-bed homes.
Work on the development, which will include open car ports, hard and soft landscaping and other associated works, is due to begin in the next three years.
