Hardley Runners duo Natalie and Mick claim European silvers

HARDLEY Runners' Natalie Green and Mick Anglim each claimed a silver medal in European Multisport Championships in Romania.

Natalie, a W20 category athlete, competed in her maiden middle-distance triathlon European championships which consisted of a 1.9km swim, 82km bike race and a 20km run.

Green impressed throughout and crossed the line in 5:20:11, finishing second behind compatriot Keely McNiffe.

Green told the A&T that she was delighted to be among the medals in her first international competition: “I knew I was fairly fit but I had no idea to this extent! I relied on my running enormously to pull back a 20-minute deficit after the bike which I reduced to just three minutes in the end, so I nearly had the gold, but considering I wasn’t expecting a medal, this was amazing.”

She added: "It was the most scenic race venue I have competed in with beautiful, untouched scenery."

Meanwhile, 70-74 AG competitor Mick Anglim, backed up his European duathlon sprint gold medal last week with silver in the standard Duathlon European championships.

He finished in 2:28:09 after a first 10 km run stage, 40km bike race and another 5km run. The performance saw him miss out on gold with Ashley Robinson pipping him by 19 seconds.

Natalie’s brother Liam Green and boyfriend Chris Harris also represented Great Britain in the 20-24 male AG aquathlon. Harris claimed fifth place in 34:24 while Liam came tenth after clocking 42:25.
