'He would put everyone first' – mum's tribute after sudden death of son

THE heartbroken mother of a Holbury man who died suddenly at home has paid tribute to her happy and caring son.

Aaron Wells (21) had returned home from university in Essex one day earlier, on 19th December, to spend the Christmas break with his family when he complained of a headache to mum Lorna.

Later that day she found him unconscious and despite CPR attempts by his father Tony, and the attendance of paramedics, he could not be revived.

Lorna told the A&T: “We are still waiting for the results of the post-mortem, but have been told it could have been caused by sudden adult death syndrome. He was our only son and his death has left a huge hole in our lives. Our lives are shattered and I feel so lost and empty.”

She added: “He was such a lovely boy, so kind natured. He would put everyone first. When his dad was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer last year he took six months off uni to help us.

“I suffer with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, and when I was unwell, he would wash and dress his dad. He was like a mother hen.”

With Tony in partial remission they urged Aaron to return to his psychology studies, but then the family were knocked by the death of Lorna’s mother in September last year.

At his funeral on 16th January, which included a service at All Saints Church in Fawley before he was laid to rest at Blackfield cemetery, friends and family were asked to wear red ties to reflect Aaron’s love for his favourite football team, Manchester United.

Lorna added: “Aaron played football from the age of six to 16 for Fawley Falcons. He was a huge Manchester United fan and always wanted to go to Old Trafford.”

Lorna and Tony have set up a fundraising page, aiming to raise £3,000 to help pay for the costs of his funeral along with a headstone.

Lorna also wants to raise awareness of sudden adult death syndrome and added: “Not many people know about it and I want to raise awareness and for my son’s memory to carry on.”
