'His kindness knew no limits' – tributes to Fawley crash victim
A DEVASTATED family has paid tribute to a Royal Engineers staff sergeant who died following a single-vehicle crash on the Fawley Bypass.
Gareth Carter (40), of West Common, Langley, was pronounced dead at the scene after his maroon Vauxhall Astra crashed on the B3053 shortly after 8.30pm on Sunday 26th April.
As reported in the A&T, paramedics took a 30-year-old Blackfield man to hospital with serious injuries.
In a statement released through Hampshire police, Mr Carter’s family spoke of his “loving nature and free spirit”.
“Gareth was a much-loved son, brother and friend to anyone in need – his kindness knew no limits, neither his passion for helping others,” they said.
“After emigrating from South Africa in 2008, he excelled in the UK armed forces as a Royal Engineer, achieving the rank of staff sergeant and only recently left the military to pursue a career in the construction industry.
“He will be sorely missed by his immediate family in the UK, extended family in South Africa, Australia and Namibia – as well as the countless people around the world whose lives he touched.”
The statement added: “Gareth lived life to the fullest and he dreamed bigger than anyone – he will always be remembered for his kind, loving nature and free spirit.”
Investigations into the collision are continuing, with officers urging those with information, and to whom they have not already spoken, to come forward.
