Shorefield Country Park withdraws plan for outdoor entertainment area

A plan by owners of a holiday park for an outside entertainment area which angry villagers claimed would turn it into a “Butlins style resort” has been withdrawn.

As reported in the A&T, more than 180 objections were received to an application by Shorefield Country Park to install a stage, outdoor screen, elevated seating, event lighting and bar. The park also wanted to create a waterpark, mini golf course and play area.

Owners of the resort in Downton said it wanted to “drastically improve and redevelop the central facilities” of the site.

But objectors said that there would be noise nuisance from the outside area which would be heard “all over the village” of Milford.

One resident living nearby said: “This area is special and should be respected, not damaged by people with no motive beyond increased profit.”

Another commented: “Shorefield describes itself as a country park and it already offers plenty for its guests.

“It is not necessary for it to have an outdoor stage and a bar. It will probably host not just concerts but keep fit classes with booming music, movie nights, Zumba – the list goes on. I am sure many of the residents that have bought a chalet or visit would not want this.”

Others said it was “totally inappropriate” and would cause traffic problems in the narrow access lane, Shorefield Road, to the park.

Park owners had said in the application that the stage would have “amplified sound” from “entertainers, plays, dance displays and live music” between 9am and 6pm every day.
