Groom Scott Birch plunged from Ayia Napa balcony on second day of honeymoon

A NEWLY married couple’s honeymoon ended in horror after the groom plunged off a second floor balcony just two days after they wed.

Scott and Vicky Birch, from Dibden Purlieu, married in Cyprus on 5th August with children Connor (14) and Chelsea (12) in attendance.

But their happiness was short-lived after 34-year-old Scott fell from the balcony of the family’s hotel in Ayia Napa.

A tree surgeon, he has been left in a coma with serious head injuries.

His family has now launched an appeal to raise £15,000 to have him flown for further treatment back home in the UK.

On a fundraising webpage a friend of the couple posted a photo of them on their wedding day saying how they “recently got married in Cyprus surrounded by their friends and family”.

But it went on: “Sadly, two days later their wedding trip was brought to a tragic end after Scott was involved in an awful accident leaving him hospitalised and in a coma, fighting for his life.

“Scott and Vicky have two young children who are still in Cyprus with Vicky praying for their dad’s survival.

“The purpose of this page is to bring Scott home to be surrounded by friends and family so he can be treated locally by the outstanding NHS.”

The friend said Scott’s condition is so serious he will need to be flown back to the UK in an air ambulance.

However, that is not covered by the European health card that has been used so far to fund his treatment in a Greek hospital.

By yesterday (Thursday), £13,505 of the target had been reached.
