Horse killed in crash with two vehicles on A31
A HORSE was killed in a collision with two vehicles which partially closed a stretch of the A31 at Ringwood for about 10 hours on Saturday.
The incident involving a Mercedes Sprinter van and a Toyota Yaris took place just after 5am on the westbound carriageway at Poulner Hill, near Eastfield Lane.
Although both vehicles were damaged in the impact, the occupants were unhurt. A Hampshire police spokesperson said the animal died at the scene.
The force and the Highways Agency closed the road while the incident was dealt with.
Traffic was diverted via slip-roads, with no delays reported, and the Highways Agency workers later took control of the incident until the scene was cleared around 3pm.
The police spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.05am on Saturday 7th November following a report of a collision between two vehicles and a horse on the A31 near Eastfield Lane, Ringwood.
“The horse died at the scene. Both vehicles were damaged but the drivers were not injured.
“A section of the westbound carriageway was closed while officers from Hampshire Constabulary and the Highways Agency attended the scene.”
